THE PROJECT GIULIANO © : The Life and Death of Bandit Salvatore Giuliano

This story began Bandito Giuliano for me about ten years ago when someone gave me negative 9 x 12, glass plate, and original prints dating back to 1950 that represented, in fact, Salvatore Giuliano.
I was surprised and pleased. Salvatore Giuliano was born in 1922 in Montelepre, near Palermo in 1950 and died at age 27, of course, killed, Castelvetrano a bad paesone the province of Trapani where his body was found riddled with bullets.

From 1943 to death, his actions, far more complex than simple banditry and brigandage common at that time in the context of the delicate situation in post-World War II, made it a sort of "public enemy number one" of Italy and at the same time a kind of reference for the separatist movement in Sicily. For a time his actions were of great political coverage by the independent movement that wanted to Sicily, and he got well and knew a great deal of media volume.
In Specifically, in 1946, when the recognition as an independent region of Sicily, Salvatore Giuliano came at the height of popularity in a context that he viewed it as a sort of "Robin Hood" of the Sicilian people.

His image, and indeed its many different pictures were everywhere, and he accepted willingly, in proper circumstances, the presence of reporters and photographers when they sought him out, or sometimes, directly for what I know, tried them himself. In addition was reasonably smart, nice and undoubtedly photogenic.

like, and became a sort of icon that lasts over time and myth.
In fact, it is still an icon.
Numerous films, documentaries and books that have been made in the past fifty years is one indication of the character around.
For my part I had the chance, or luck, to find his images. Some more interesting than others.

Salvatore Giuliano, the bandit and icon, appears in a state of everyday life: he eats, sleeps, laughs and poses with his mother. I wanted to see closely at these pictures and I propose in this project view.
