Italy has an area described by a very singular form, an icon would say, the Strait of Messina is a part of this very distinctive look and feel and is a geographical location but also a strong mapping: mapping and planimetric representation is inevitably , as are the aerial photos or satellite.
But the point of view of man is prospective, non-orthogonal, hence the need look no further.
In 2004 I wanted to make a good picture of this place and I succeeded only after four days of observation, from many points of view, and after many kilometers up and down between Sicily and Calabria.
I could make this picture just inerpicarcandomi among many rough trails of the mountains of Calabria Tyrrhenian, was the right point of view, an aerial image and a lot of perspective at the same time.
To these considerations must be added to waiting for the right weather conditions and consideration of the proper position of the sun.
Building a good image is a complex process, not least in terms of dedicated power. And if one were to estimate the living costs in the Italian ... depressed and wretched woman that often meeting when I suggest the work of photography, think about the costs of carrying out ad hoc image with potential clients is a real tragedy ... but there is much more behind an image of the shot. And to recognize the value enough to reflect on the communicative power of language and image in contemporary communication.
